In 2008 I:

- graduated from college
- got a full-time job
- decided I actually like my job
- spent the entire month of November at my job, frequently to the exclusion of sleeping
- drove cross-country for the second time
- wrote far less than in 2007
- had far more ideas for stories, and better ones
- lost some very close friends
- made some better friends
- met up with some fandom friends (multiple times!)
- moved to New York
- worked in three states and lived in a fourth
- yelled from the roof of my apartment building on Election Day
- yelled from the streets of Lower Manhattan on Election Night
- kissed someone in an elevator
- bought the first decent bed I have ever owned
- fell a little out of love with SPN
- fell a lot in love with Entourage
- rediscovered board games
- discovered that I have an inner '50s hostess
- frequently decided that walking a mile and a half cross-town in the cold was a better choice than riding the train one more stop. Note to self: wrong.

2008, you were weird. Mostly good weird, but definitely weird. Overall I'm happier than I was this time last year, though, so 2008 can count for a win.

Oh! Haha! In 2008, also, I watched Twilight.

Unpopular fandom opinion time! I think Twilight kicks The Christmas Cottage's ass to hell and back. Both of these movies are pretty freaking atrocious! But Twilight is absolutely the sort of atrocious that is so bad it is also AWESOME, and it sinks its teeth into you and holds on for dear life and you LOVE IT. (YES YES. I KNOW ABOUT THE PUN.)

There are some pieces of fanfic that I have very similar relationships to. I shall call this multifandom recs list:

Those stories you should really stop reading because the rational part of your mind is screaming for mercy and yet you cannot stop, ever, even if there were a pack of rabid dogs at your heels. Or beautiful, sparkly vampires. )

Regardless, the point of this is, Twilight! Really bad, but deeefinitely the kind of really bad that comes right back around to sort of totally amazing. I hear the books are extra awful, and Stephenie Meyer makes the universe cry, but I'm going to go read them now anyway. YUP.

A lot of you guys probably haven't seen me do this before since it's been such a ridiculously long time since I finished a book (with pages!) that I was reading for pleasure, but I keep a record of every book I read, with stuff like how many pages are in it, what year it was written in, etc., along with a grade (A-F) and my reaction to it. My reactions are generally non-spoilery; I'll mark them as containing spoilers if they do. But anyway, since it is now (FINALLY) summer, I'm going to be doing a lot more reading of Actual Books than I have been in a while. I'm kind of stupidly excited about this. Reading books on the beach, man, that IS summer for me.

So anyway, I've finished a couple of books in the past few days, and neglected to write them up. So:

I am almost certain I'm the last person EVER to see the new OotP movie trailer. I've been lacking in HP squee for a while now -- since right about when I started watching SPN, actually. heh. -- and I even went so far as to declare a moratorium on Harry Potter for a while in the hopes of recovering my squee sometime before July. But hey, the squee's not entirely dead! It looked real dead, but is not actually! It is like an opossum in that way. I even made small gleeful noises over the trailer, so I have high hopes for July being awesome. Although I will say that I'm glad I'm not invested in the future of the HP fandom the way I was, say, a year ago. Or even a few months ago. Thank you, SPN! \o/

Speaking of SPN, the fic has hit 10,000 words. And still has another thousand or so to go, at least. I'm kind having a bit of an Ending Crisis, so I figured I'd stop at the 10,000 word mark for the night and see if the crisis resolves itself by morning. Am rewatching American Beauty in the meantime. I like it much better than I remember having liked it as a 14-year-old, but this might also be connected to the fact that the first time I saw it was with my parents and it was very much not their kind of movie. Or the kind of movie you really want to watch with your parents at all, come to think of it. I heart Kevin Spacey, though.

I also heart him in L.A. Confidential, which I recently watched for the six or seventh time and which manages to get better every time I see it. I love basically everything about that movie, including the fact that it's filmed gorgeously, which I somehow didn't notice until my friend Matt pointed it out. Uh, I'm easily distracted by the shiny plot and things? *hides head in shame*

Title: Draw Down the Lines
Author: [livejournal.com profile] katjad
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 3,875
Pairings: Draco/Ginny, Harry/Ginny and a bit of Harry/Draco -- but really it's all about the Draco/Ginny.
DISCLAIMER: All characters, situations, etc. belong to J.K. Rowling and her publishers.
Summary: She thought he was kidding at first.
Author's Notes: So I thought that after 48,000 words of Crepúsculo I'd said my piece on Draco/Ginny. But it seems that I then went and wrote 3,800 words of Draco/Ginny porn, so huh. I guess I lied. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] actriz_k for looking this over.

Title: Crepúsculo 11/11

Author: [livejournal.com profile] katjad

Rating: PG-13

Pairing: Draco/Ginny

DISCLAIMER: Characters belong to J.K. Rowling. They're not mine.

Summary: Dumbledore explains it all.

Author's Notes: Since I started writing Crepúsculo in 2002, it only incorporates canon through GoF, so you'll find various inconsistencies with later canon in this fic. Among other things, Dumbledore's still alive, as you might have noticed from this chapter's summary, and Ginny's name is Virginia rather than Ginevra. Continuing the trend from Chapter Ten, this chapter contains an HBP reference. Huge thanks to Soz for betaing all the way through. Previous chapters can be found here.

Title: Crepúsculo 10/11

Author: [livejournal.com profile] katjad

Rating: PG-13

Pairing: Draco/Ginny

DISCLAIMER: Characters belong to J.K. Rowling. They're not mine.

Summary: In which there is shit, and a fan.

Author's Notes: Thanks, as always, to Soz for betaing. I started writing this before OotP, so it only assumes canon through GoF. There might be an HBP reference or two in this chapter, though, if you squint.

Chapter Ten: The Key )

Title: Crepúsculo 9/11

Author: [livejournal.com profile] katjad

Rating: PG-13

Pairing: Draco/Ginny

DISCLAIMER: Not mine.

Summary: Things begin to fall apart.

Author's Notes: Thanks to Soz, as always. I've been writing this fic for about a billion years, so it's not based on anything past GoF canon, but it may contain some references to OotP and HBP.

Chapter Nine: The Riddle )

Title: Crepúsculo 8/11

Author: [livejournal.com profile] katjad

Rating: PG-13

Pairing: Draco/Ginny (no, really!)

DISCLAIMER: Not mine, as usual.

Summary: Ginny attends a particularly educational Charms class.

Author's Notes: Thanks to Soz for the beta. Sorry for the long wait between chapters, as always. I started writing this fic before OotP, so it's only based on canon up through GoF although there are some mentions of things that will sound familiar from later canon, if you look for them.

Title: The Yellow House

Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Word Count: 29,000
Summary: Five years after the war, Draco Malfoy's life is in danger. It's up to Harry Potter to protect him.
DISCLAIMER: All characters, situations, etc. belong to J.K. Rowling. All canon information comes from the Lexicon.

This has been around for kind of a while, and it sounds ridiculous when you first look at the title, but read it! It makes lots of sense.

Title: Crepúsculo 7/11

Author: [livejournal.com profile] katjad

Rating: PG-13

DISCLAIMER: All characters belong to J.K. Rowling various other corporations/things, not to me.

Summary: She'd kissed Malfoy. She had kissed Draco Malfoy purposefully and willingly. That would have been bad enough, but she’d liked kissing him. There were so many things wrong with this that she didn’t even know where to start thinking about it.

Author's Notes: I've been writing this since well before OotP came out, so it's not based on anything past GoF canon, although in this and later chapters I may include some ideas from either OotP or HBP or both if they seem to fit. Thanks to Soz for beta-reading since the beginning, and to everyone who's been reading this fic. Y'all are awesome.

Author's Notes, Part II: I chose the title for this fic back when I thought foreign language titles were cool. I've since changed my mind on that subject, but the title's been around for more than three years at this point, so I guess I'm stuck with it. In case you were wondering, "Crepúsculo" is Spanish for "twilight."
